Jhet Torcelino – van Ruyven is a women of the 21st Century. Not only is she a successful entrepreneur on the Peninsula but she is also an International Speaker and a victorious author of The Tale of Juliet – You Have The Power To Change Your Life.

Since its release over a year and a half ago, the inspirational book has jetted her to Japan, Singapore, Philippines, United States and here in Canada for speaking engagements. Hard to believe it all began from what she called “humble beginnings”. Jhet grew up in a rural village in the Philippines gripped with extreme poverty. When she was 16 years old, a philanthropist helped change the course of her life. “Had it not been for him, and all the others whom I call angels in my life, I would probably still be in the same rural village”. Jhet said.

Twenty years ago, Jhet came to the Peninsula, and in 1995 she opened Digi-Print Graphics Plus. “I always dream of owning a business and I love to be of service to people” Talking about law of attraction.

Whatever Jhet has dreamed when she was an impoverished child has truly come true for her and more well beyond her wildest dreams.

A sudden passing away of one of her employees made Jhet think of her life’s purpose. “What is my real purpose in life, were the questions that came up in her mind. That was then that she decided to pursue her new found real life’s purpose. “I wanted to add value and service to other people’s lives not only through Digi-Print Graphics Plus but also to inspire many people to be the best they could possibly be and reach to their fullest potential”. She began to put into words her life story that has touched and continues to touch millions of lives all over.

Since its release, she has been in a constant media whirlwind interview, inspirational talks on TV, radio, magazines and newspapers both her in North America and in her home country the Philippines. The book is available online at www.thetaleofjuliet.com and at the amazon.com.

Equally exiting for Jhet was being awarded “People Of The Year Award” by Asia Magazine for spreading and planting seeds of inspiration. The book also garnered an award by Independent Publisher Award – Honorable Mention in Best Non-Fiction Book in Western Canada.

My heartfelt gratitude to my staff Katy, Keri, Matt, Jules husband band Ted and daughters Michelle and Catherine for their love and support to pursue my dreams. A big thank you goes to our loyal customers who trust us with their business projects.

She recently just got back from her home country speaking in four different islands with the topic “Program Your Mind For Success”. Jhet will carry on to inspire and motivate others through powerful determination for success presentations.

What I really wanted to do is to actively pursue delivering presentations and planting seeds of hope, courage and determination to share how little acts of kindness will have a ripple effect in the lives of others. It happened to me and I wanted it to happen to many more others here and all over the world. This is about paying it forward and passing in on. “Magic moment is when you wake up in the morning and you feel you are making use of your talent to help others find their own purpose in life. It’s internally very rewarding and fulfilling”.

Part of the proceeds of the sale of The Tale Of Juliet is committed to building homes for the poorest of the poor in the Philippines.

To invite Jhet for a powerful energizing presentation and for a copy of The Tale Of Juliet log on to www.thetaleofjuliet.com or email her at Jhet@thetaleofjuliet.com. To find our more about her frequent trips all over www.blog.thetaleofjuliet.com

GUIDED BY ANGELS
January 12, 2005

By Tracy Holmes

From humble beginnings, Jhet Torcelino-van Ruyven has flown to success on the wings of many angels.

To name a few; her parents, who blessed her with a thirst for education and a love of reading; the Filipino priest who saw to it she got that education; her husband, Ted and children, Michelle and Catherine; and Mark Victor Hansen, author of Chicken Soup for the Soul series, who told her she had a story to tell.

Even her dog, Sneakers, has played a role in her journey from poverty to providence – from a one-room bamboo-floored hut shared with 11 siblings to an ocean-view home; from a child walking barefoot village to village selling fruit and vegetables to support her family to a successful South Surrey entrepreneur.

Its fortune not everyone with her background would find, it has to be shared, Torcelino-van Ruyven said Monday. “I’m just so full of gratitude”, the slight, 4’10” woman said.

“People that know me in the Philippines call me Cinderella. I’m fully, fully blessed.”

Torcelino-van Ruyven’s story, told in full in a soon-to-be self-published autobiography, begins at a young age. She grew up in the small village of Pader, in a one-room home with no electricity or water. She and her siblings had just a few pillows between them on which to sleep, and books were a rare and treasured delight.

At just seven years old, and the second-eldest in her family, she went to work on weekends, selling fruit, vegetables and candies door-to-door (with each door a mile or more apart) and along Matabungkay Beach.

This continued through high school, until a priest whose family her father drove, heard of a young girl who wanted to go to college. “I don’t know what he aw in me,” Torcelino-van Ruyven said of the now-72 year- old Monsignor Antonio ‘Derps’ Unson.

“He took us to a very special restaurant in the city. He told me he saw potential in me.” Unson helped Torcelino-van Ruyven enroll in an exclusive Manila school, setting her up with a job doing laundry and dishes in exchange for her room and board.

She earned a medical secretary certificate, and went to work in Manila hospital for eight years, before a broken heart drove her to seek a new life in Yemen. There, she worked in a hospital and for an oil company. While doing volunteer work, she met Mother Teresa. It’s also where she met her husband Ted. They moved to South Surry in 1987, and within a few years, Torcelino-van Ruyven bought her first business, Ocean Park Business Centre.

Ten years later, she is running Digi-Print Graphics Plus on 24 Avenue, has traveled extensively with her family, is three-quarters through writing her life story, and excitedly waiting to move into her under-construction ocean-view home.

It’s a story she hopes will inspire, as so many stories and people have inspired her. Her purpose now, she said is to give back. She’s sponsored a scholarship at her Manila high school, and begun giving inspirational talks to students there. She hopes her book will go a long way to fulfilling her goal.

In it, Torcelino-van Ruyven writes, “People come and go from our lives, but they all bring gifts, learning and hints about our highest purpose here.”

“If it hadn’t been for that priest that believed in me, I’d probably still be in that village,” She said.” “It changed the course of my life.”

Photo not shown here: A photo of a snow-angel made by Michelle on the porch /deck off their living room on the night of Jhet’s birthday – January 9, 2005. Jhet is showing reading some of her favorite books looking over the snow angel.

The newspaper photographer noticed the angel during their visit to Jhet’s home in the morning of the interview and decided what an appropriate piece for the photo... Jhet – Guided by Angels.

Getting media attention about my life’s mission and purpose the day after my birthday is one of the greatest gifts I ever received.
